Only a month before on the 12 of January 2010, Haiti undertook the an earthquake which measured up to 7 on the Richter scale; lasting for an agonising minute. The closest city to the earthquake, Port-au-prince was completely destroyed with over 250,000 residencies and 30,000 commercial buildings brought to rubble. The city was completely vulnerable due to no laws put in place for the construction of quake proof buildings, which was largely due to the fact of their economic state being in tatters and, their place of 145 out 169 countries in wealth. The government buildings were also destroyed along with the deaths of many of their workers, the communications was also ruptured, making rescue attempts futile without any word of where anyone was. Furthermore, months after the earthquake and around 800,000 people are were still living in refugee wandering wether they will ever get help to live or rebuild their houses, Overall, due to Haiti's economic issues and their inability to get in contact with survivors across to the people, the city was utterly destroyed along with many lives, it was the country's darkest days.
