Japan Tsunami:
On March 11, 2011, a huge earthquake terrorised Japan, which also triggered a 23 foot tsunami which wiped out many parts of Tokyo and a small city called Sendai. Japan is located underneath the North American, Pacific, Eurasian and Philippine plates, (however the Philippine plate was not involved in this particular incident) only three of them collided in a destructive boundary where one denser plate goes underneath a heavier one, in this scenario, two plates went under. Energy had been building up for a long time and was ready to rapidly rise upwards like a spring, when it did rise, it created one of the most immense earthquake and tsunami in history. As it unfolded, the epicentre kept producing waves and waves of tremors that had been built up from over the years. Scientists expected it to end in just fifteen seconds, but the earthquake lasted an agonising five minutes. As the tsunami swept through these rural parts of Japan, it carried tons of debris with it, aiding the constant waves to demolish both normal houses and well fortified buildings with strong bases, further proving that this was one the most devastating tsunamis of all time. Japan thought they were prepared with a half an hour warning, but nothing could have prepared them with what happened just moments later. This earthquake measured an incredible 9.2 on the richter scale, and after both the tsunami and quake were over, Japan was left in both distraught and wreckage as they had watched one of the most formidable forces of mother nature at work.
